The position is part of the research project "Perception-based evaluation of noise protection measures on the railway", which investigates the assessment of noise protection measures in the context of railway noise using acoustic measurements, simulation data and human experiments. Among other things, the research focus is on the question of which experimental procedures are appropriate for the evaluation of train pass-by events. The activities include participation in the planning of listening experiments, support with the implementation of listening experiments and support in analysing the data from the human experiments.

Tasks

• scheduling and organization of human subject experiments (10 monthly hours)
• correspondence with test persons (6 monthly hours)
• assistance in conducting perception experiments (16 monthly hours)
• preparation of empirical data (8 monthly hours)

Must:

• Experience with human experiments in a controlled laboratory environment
• Experience with hardware and software aspects of VR applications (e.g. head-mounted displays, Unreal Engine)
• Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills

Can:

• Basic knowledge in the field of railway or rail acoustics
• Experience with spatial audio playback formats (especially Ambisonics)
