Research Associate (PostDoc) - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 2nd qualification phase (to take up a professorship for the first time)
part-time employment may be possible
Tasks
- Research and teaching at the Institute of Mathematics within the chair of numerical methods for partial differential equations (PDEs)
- Research within the fields of the chair for numerical methods for PDEs, for example the development of new methods for simulation and/or optimization of convection-dominated flow problems
- Teaching (4 hours per week for a full-time position) in courses for math- and non-math majors, in particular in the area of numerical methods, including supervision of seminars and assistance for lectures, teaching of exercise classes, and co-supervision of BSc and MSc students/theses
Requirements
- Successfully completed university degree (MSc, Diplom or equivalent) in mathematics, technomathematics, or equivalent, or in scientific computing, or in a field of study with a comparable specialisation
- At the time of hire, proof of completion of doctoral degree (PhD) must be provided
- The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
- Profound knowledge in numerical methods for PDEs
Desired qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in mathematics with emphasis on numerical methods for PDEs
- Profound knowledge in finite volume and/or finite element schemes
- Profound knowledge in numerical analysis (error/stability analysis of methods)
- Very good programming skills in ideally several languages and experience in using bigger software packages
- Teaching experience
- Team spirit, working cooperatively
